ABOUT ME....

Picture
....I have always made things. My dad's workbench was a secret hangout where I got to make things out of wood, figuring out what the tools were for as I went along. Had he known I was doing this I probably would have been in a lot of trouble because that was his turf. I worked on metals there too, making a railroad spike look like it was really worth something! I was also given a rock tumbler and a beading loom at a young age too. I drew, learned how to knit, crochet, embroider, work with clay, do wood burnings, etc. I absolutely LOVED woodshop in 7th grade. He said us girls shouldn't expect any "A's"....well the bet was on! I made sure I learned the stuff like the back of my hand and he reluctantly gave me "A's". We weren't allowed to take any more shop classes, so when I got old enough to work in shops, I went for it! Wood shops of all kinds, a lumber mill grading lumber, machine shops running CNC machines and set-up and tear-down. wire EDM machines, etc. I also learned how to solder and rework the tiny surface mount ICs on computer boards when I worked in electronics.

I continue to grow and learn. I met a retired jewelry instructor and he is going to show me how to do lost wax casting with silver using the jewelry kiln. Hopefully someday I will become a Master Silversmith too. He was also showing me how to facet stones....another thing I really want to learn. So...that's me...always thinking, always creating, and always doing something inside or outside, as well as playing and giving lots of love and treats to my critters!

So, I hope you'll visit my webpage and my blog often to see what's new. Every month there should be at least one new item.

Thank you for visiting!

On the left, below, is the J Liz Jewelry & More Loyalty Card. This is a fantastic way to get great savings. You can redeem the card when you have one side filled up (five squares) for $5. off a J Liz Jewelry & More purchase, or you can wait until you have the whole card filled up for $10. off. And what is really rare, you can save up those cards (at $10. off value each) to get your jewelry free! (4 cards=$40. off, equals a $40. necklace)...or maybe $40. off that beautiful Swarovski necklace! I log in the number on the card, assign it to your name, and every time you make a purchase, I will give you a number or symbol to put on a square. The SKU# of your item(s) purchased will also be logged in too, just in case you lose your card.

SKU's....another nice thing for you to know about the SKUs I assigned for each item here....If you ever lose your necklace, earring, horse, puppet, etc.... that SKU tells me exactly which folder the picture is in so I can find it. That way if you ever need a picture of it, I can email it to you for your "LOST" posters, or I can possibly make you another one. With the SKU, I will know exactly which item you are referring to. Too cool, eh?

These adorable horses are handmade by me. They each seem to have a personality all their own! At $15. each, they will give many years of cuddles and love.

I only use new yarn and new hypo-allergenic polyester fiber fill. I buy the yarn and fiber fill locally. I keep the yarn and fill sealed in zipped bags when not in use. I have oodles of colors of yarn, so if you don't see a color or color combination you would like, let me know and I will make your horse! I will also be adding jewelry and other accessories for the horses, as well as offering jewelry to wear that will match the horse's jewelry or colors. I am also planning on having little birth certificates for the horses, where you can choose their birthday!

I have made the horses so they are safe for babies as well. The yarn ends are pulled all the way through the horse, and then woven back up into the knitting for quite a ways before the ends are cut. This applies to the horse's eyes as well. It should be NOTED however, that babies, toddlers, and children should not be left unsupervised/unattended. Little ones sometimes do amazing things we didn't think they could do, and that trait alone is reason enough to be attentive. I've seen little ones dismantle things in nothing flat, so if you have one of these gifted children, you probably know you need to keep an eye on them.

More knitted and crocheted items to come, so stay tuned!

Earring metals...

I no longer use or offer Surgical Steel. It has a very small amount of Nickel in them, of which I am allergic to, as are millions of people. Nickel is the most common metal to be allergic to.

Surgical Steel has a layer of Chromium on top, but even still, those who are sensitive to Nickel will react. Where the metal makes skin contact, you might see redness and it will feel itchy. If you continue to use them / expose yourself to the metal, you will experience symptoms just like an infection, which many people mistake it for. I learned this the hard way when I was working at a machine shop making tiny little parts out of Nickel, almost the size of pepper flakes. As a result, I react quickly to Nickel, so I can only work with jewelry-grade Surgical Steel for short periods of time. (There are many grades of Surgical Steel.)  Due to the fact that SO MANY people do not know they're allergic to Nickel, I have discontinued its use in my jewelry.

For a few months I experimented with Silver-fill and Gold-fill ear wires. The quality and longevity just didn't meet my standards, so I do not offer them here as a choice. The earrings that did have these ear wires on them have all been replaced with Sterling Silver, Niobium, Titanium, or Argentium Silver.

These are the ear wire metals I use:
Argentium Silver, which has a high-resistance to tarnishing, Sterling Silver, and Nobium. Nobium is a natural metal, found in the Periodic Table of Elements. This is the very best hypo-allergenic metal there is, next to Platinum. Nobium also does not ever tarnish. The downside is that Nobium is not a shiny metal, but they have permanently colored earwies, including neutral colors as well.

With all of the metals, except for Nobium, you should use anti-tarnish strips. I will be adding the anti-tarnish strips to some orders for free. Just one is good for six months in your jewelry box or whatever container you wish to use.

Every piece of jewelry is a "one-of", designed by me and made by me. Pictured above are just three of hundreds of drawings of my designs that are yet to come. In most cases I can make an item you see in a different size or color.

The items with a lot of Swarovski crystals are more expensive due to their cost. These crystals are expertly faceted and sparkle like no other. The Double Diamond Amethyst and Violet Swarovski necklace shown above on the left and the Triple Diamond Aquamarine and Blue Metallic crystal necklace show below, took hundreds of crystals and seed beads, and several days to make. The designs usually pop into my head when I am trying to fall asleep, complete with materials and colors. I draw them out and then figure out how to make it look like what I envisioned.

I stand behind my work, so if there are any problems, please do not hesitate to let me know. It is important for me to know so I not only know what is happening, but also so you can be happy knowing the item(s) you purchased from me don't have to sit and gather dust. ---The same goes for the materials I use--- let me know so I can look for a better product in that category.

If you lose an earring I made, let me know. More than likely I can make you another one because I always try to keep extra pieces.

If you are interested in having me make or design an item or set of jewelry, please feel free to contact me. We'll get the design(s) and materials figured out, and then I'll look to see what my costs are and give you an estimate. If I am given the go-ahead, then one-half down of the total cost is due before I start on it. The one-half down is refundable if I have not ordered the parts yet. If I have ordered them, it will depend on the items ordered and their costs, whether or not the supplier will allow the return, if they charge a restocking fee, and/or if it is something would purchase and use.

It is my goal to make one or two complicated or work-intensive designs per month when I can...ones that befit the J Liz Jewelry & More 27 Park Rose Avenue Gallery. There will also be a lot more of the less complex and work-intensive pieces as well.
Some more of my designs drawn, above, as well as the Triple Diamond Aquamarine and Metallic Blue crystal necklace. There is also a gem of advice from a 90 year young lady.

Up in the mountains in Idaho, and one of my favorite flowers, Columbine. Hummingbirds, butterflies and bees love them. They are also a natural wildflower, so they do very well in the various conditions here.
