J LIZ EARRING PHOTO GALLERY & METAL INFORMATION
ALL of my earrings are Nickel-free. Nickel is the most common metal to be allergic to, and I am one of them. My reaction to this metal is quick, so you can be sure that none of the metals I use in my jewelry have Nickel in them. Despite its name, "Surgical Steel", the jewelry-grade has nickel in it, and therefore, I can't touch it.
I use Sterling Silver, Argentium Silver, Titanium, and Niobium for Earrings.
If you tend to be allergic to a lot of metals, Nobium is a great choice. It is a natural metal found on the Periodic Table of Elements. It can be in its natural color or anodized and coated into many colors. With all of the many years of its use by jewelers and others, no known allergic reactions have occurred. It does not tarnish.
Argentium Silver consists of natural metals combined to create a highly tarnish-resistant Sterling Silver. Due to it's Silver content, it is also a high quality choice. It sometimes costs more than Sterling Silver due to the luxury of it's tarnish-resistance. It is still a good idea to use anti-tarnish strips or tabs.
Sterling Silver is quite common and a quality choice. It is strongly advised to use or purchase Anti-Tarnish Strips so it does not tarnish. That is an oxidation process which over time irreversibly damages it. One strip can last six months and is inexpensive. With many of my earrings, I include a small anti-tarnish tab for free.
Titanium is a natural, pure metal as well and is also found on the Periodic Table of Elements. It is also a very hypo-allergenic metal, with rare allergic reactions to it. Titanium is used for surgically implanted parts, aircraft, aerospace and other uses. It is a very lightweight, very strong metal. It's natural color is usually a light grey. It is not a shiny metal. This metal also does not tarnish.
NOTE: I have a few hoop earrings left that are silver-plated and gold-plated. Because I have discontinued the use of plated metals for earrings, I am selling the remaining hoop earrings for only $5. each. These too, do not have nickel in them. The base metal for these is brass. I also include a Free Anti-Tarnish tab to protect them from tarnishing, and helps to prolong the life of the plating.
